The purity of platinum is generally expressed by the symbol \u2030, which stands for per mille. Simply put, per mille is a unit based on a ratio of one thousand, meaning it is ten times a normal percent (based on a ratio of one hundred). The grade of pure platinum, 1000\/1000, is written as Pt1000. As the purity decreases, so does the Pt value: Pt950, Pt900, Pt850, and so on.

\nIn Japan, platinum jewellery is limited to grades Pt850 and upward, meaning that 85% or more of the jewellery\u2019s composition is pure platinum. However, lower-grade platinum products such as Pt750, Pt585, and Pt505 have also appeared in the market recently. Lower-purity platinum is still beautiful and therefore loved by many consumers.
